Sofinha

About us

A small handmade studio in Lahore

Sofinha makes cotton bedding, cushion covers, soy candles and soap, hand-lettered wall art, planted pots and gift boxes — all of it by hand, in one home studio, delivered across Pakistan.

It began at a kitchen table with one sewing machine. It is still made a few pieces at a time.

Who makes it

Sofia Qureshi

Founder & Maker

Sofia wanted a plain cotton bedsheet in a shade she liked and could not find one. So she bought a few metres, cut them on the kitchen table, and sewed a set for her own bed. Two aunts asked for the same, then a neighbour.

She still cuts the first length of every new batch, answers the WhatsApp messages herself, and packs the parcels on the table it all started on. There is no call centre here and no sales team — when you message us, you are talking to the person who made the thing.

It is a working room rather than a shop, with a family in the rest of the house, so there is no showroom and no walk-ins. It is also why the photographs are of the work and not of a shop floor.

Why the name

Sofinha is Sofia and her daughter Minha, joined together. Minha is still a baby, and the studio grew up around her — a cot beside the cutting table, work that fits between naps.

How we work

Three things that shape everything here

  • cloth being cut on the table, scissors mid-line

    Made by hand

A person cuts, sews, pours or letters every piece. That is why no two are identical, and why we say so rather than hoping you will not notice.

  • shelves of folded stock at the end of a working day

    In small batches

A few lengths dyed, thirty candles poured — and a shade that shifts a little between batches. A mill smooths all of this out by dyeing two thousand metres at once and discarding what falls outside a tolerance. We dye forty metres and keep all of it, because forty metres of good cotton is not something to throw away over half a shade.

  • cut cotton with a pattern ruler and shears on the studio table

    Honest materials

Cotton, soy wax, cold-process soap, terracotta and wood. Every page says what a piece is made of, including the parts that fade or change with use.

Ask Sofia anything before you order

Ask her for a photograph of the actual lot in daylight before you decide — we do that most days. A shade against your curtains, a size we do not list, a delivery date: same answer, same person.
